SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE
SLAYING OF CAPTAIN LOUIS NEL
A NATION DEMANDS JUSTICE

Captain Louis Nel
“The Nation which forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten.”
– Calvin Coolidge

Funeral Notice
Captain Nel was killed on 30 April 2026 while carrying out his duties in Mount Edgecombe. He had spent many years serving in law enforcement, protecting communities against crime. His death was not only a loss to his family and colleagues, but to the whole country.
News of his murder spread quickly across South Africa, leaving many shocked and heartbroken. For police officers and their families, it was another painful reminder of the dangers faced by those who serve and protect.
At his funeral, Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli spoke about Captain Nel’s life, his courage, and his dedication. He described him as a man of honour, discipline, and service. To many in the room, Captain Nel was more than a colleague, he was a trusted leader, a friend, and a brother.
As his coffin, covered with the South African flag, stood before the congregation, one message was clear, enough is enough.
The killing of police officers cannot become something society accepts. When a law enforcement officer is murdered, it is not only an attack on one person. It is an attack on justice, on public safety, and on the rule of law.
Captain Nel’s death must not become just another case that is forgotten. His family, his colleagues, and the people of South Africa deserve answers, accountability, and justice. “Justice must not only be done, but must also be seen to be done”. Salute Sir !
