GERRY WRITES FROM THE UK:
Ek hoop dat jy met al jou kontakte my kan help.
The subject of my research is the late John Spalding “Jack Stoole” who was a top Bisley shooter for Rhodesia and Zimbabwe from 1947 to 1983. I recently had the privilege of being shown a fine collection of various awards (medals, medallions, trophies, etc) won by Stoole over several decades. He represented Rhodesia and Zimbabwe in competitions in the UK, South Africa, Kenya and Israel.
Unfortunately, the collection, now owned by his granddaughter (married to my cousin) has no accompanying data pertaining to each award. I photographed the collection and gave the lady an undertaking that I would research the awards.
To this end, I identified the South African ones and I have drawn up a catalogue of them which I have attached. By each item I have inserted questions, but I would appreciate any information that will help me build up a comprehensive portfolio. In the attached catalogue there are seven items:
1. 1966 SANRA Silver Medal
2. 1960 SA National “50 Union” Bisley Bronze Medal
3. 1974 SANRA Palma Year Bronze Medal
4. 1979 Papegaijskiet Stellenbosch Medal, Red Ribbon
5. 1980 Visitors Medal, Blue Ribbon
6. 1968 Silver Bowl, inscribed “Dinsdag – Totaal 1968 1ste”
7. SANRA Silver Beer Tankard
Also include are two group photos:
1. Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland Rifle Team, Bloemfontein 1963
2. Rhodesian Rifle Team S.A. Games, Bloemfontein 1969
I will be grateful for anything you can find out for me.
I may also reach out to the SANRA to see if they can assist.
Beste
Gerhard
