The painting entitled “Death of the Prince Imperial” shows him holding a spear in his right hand as was described in some accounts.
I couldn’t help but notice that his sword scabbard is depicted as being empty. It’s a curious detail for the artist to have included. Perhaps it fell out and was lost during the incident with his horse. When writing my post, I looked really hard for further details of what happened there but never found anything.
The photograph of him only shows the scabbard of his sword and not the hand guard so unfortunately there is still no clue if its guard would have allowed him to use it left handed.
