My dear friend William John Slabbert,

I was deeply saddened to hear of your passing this morning.

Donna and I have only fond and cherished memories of you over the many years we were privileged to know you. From our carefree days roaming the streets of Johannesburg, to visiting you in Margate, those moments will always stay with us.

You were one of the very finest policemen I ever had the honour of working alongside. It is profoundly sad that when a great South African like you passes on, so few will ever truly know the sacrifices you made for this country, and later, your unwavering commitment to the Margate community.

My greatest regret is that we did not spend more time together in recent years.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Heidi and the family. You will never be forgotten.

Gone too young, gone too soon.

Rest in peace, my dear friend
