MAU MAU: SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE ACTIVE IN KENYA

Abstract

• Enquiry into the rendering of service in Kenya by members of the South African Police.

The Union of South Africa was part and parcel part of the British Commonwealth and the South African Police liaised with various British Colonial Police Forces. The Special Nongqai on Lt-Genl HJ du Plooy, for example, has many Christmas Cards from various Colonial Police Forces in the special edition which proves this point.

Van Zyl and Heine were, two Special Branch officers who were sent from South Africa to Kenya according to Caroline Elkins, Imperial Reckoning: The Untold Story of Britain’s Gulag in Kenya (New York 2005).

I only know that Capt JH du Plessis did an investigation in Kenya regarding the Mau Mau and submitted a report to our Commissioner.  

Two SA Police Dog Masters served in Kenya during 1953.

I know SA Police also served in Palestine …..
