Message of Condolence: Sarie Van Niekerk

It is with great sadness and deep regret that I learned of the passing of our dear Sarie Van Niekerk. Her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her and by everyone who followed her work.

Sarie was the editor of Nongqai – The Ladies Edition. Through this role, she played an important part in telling the stories of women in the South African Police Service. She spent many years interviewing, researching, recording, and documenting the achievements and contributions of women who served their communities with dedication and courage.

Sarie was passionate about her work. She believed strongly that the efforts of women in the police deserved to be seen, recognised, and remembered. Her work reached not only people in our country, but also readers abroad. Through her writing, she honoured the service, strength, and commitment of many women whose stories might otherwise have been forgotten.

She dedicated her life to this mission. Her work will always stand as a valuable record of history and service. Those who followed her work will remember her for her commitment, professionalism, and respect for others. Those who knew her personally will remember her kindness and her quiet determination.

Sarie’s passing leaves a great empty space. She will be sadly missed by colleagues, friends, readers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her or learning from her work. We commend and salute her for her lifelong dedication and the meaningful contribution she made.

It was truly a pleasure to have made her acquaintance. We are grateful for her life, her work, and the legacy she leaves behind. We shall miss you at Nongqai.

May her soul rest in peace. I salute you.
